For Fifth Year, The Media Hotel & Towers Joins Global Communities to Mark Environmental Awareness Event: EARTH HOUR

Jakarta, March 18th 2013 – The Media Hotel & Towers announced its participation in the celebration of Earth Hour 2013. A series of environmental activities have been scheduled during the month of March 2013 to commemorate the global campaign on saving energy, reducing emission and climate change.

Let’s Switch Off Lights and Go Dark for an Hour
By spending an hour in the dark on the evening of March 23rd 2013, The Media Hotel & Towers will join millions around the world to send a powerful message about a brighter future for the planet. The hotel will turn off non-essential lights and unused electronic gadgets in observance of Earth Hour, the global environmental awareness event created by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF).

For the last five years, the hotel participated in the cause together with people across the world to switch off lights and came together in celebration and contemplation of the one thing we all have in common; earth planet. Previous year’s campaign successfully reduced 84,203 kilowatt of electricity by switching lights only in one hour. This year, The Media Hotel & Towers will continue the International campaign by switching off lights, applying daily green tips and hosting Earth Hour Cocktail on the evening of March 23rd 2013.

Daily Green Tips
Throughout the month, the hotel also encourages its associates to practice what they call Daily Green Tips. The tips are being read on daily basis and each associate enlivens daily tips on how to create environmentally-friendly working atmosphere as well as applying at their homes.

According to Director of Human Resource Agus Rojali, it includes simple actions in everyday routine of human life, for example, it says: Treat Tap Water Wisely. Turn the water faucet off while brushing teeth or washing hands. Never let it flow unnecessarily. It is suggested to install low pressure faucet. “These tips are very useful to practice on a daily basis, and not only reading it, our associates also love to practice a new tip every day,” said Agus

General Manager The Media Hotel & Towers Algamar Idris said his team continues to encourage guests and associates to participate in the campaign. “This will be our fifth annual participation and we are very excited to enrich our support by hosting various activities. We would like to show our commitment to make the world a better place for us and our future generations, raise awareness on environmental issues as well as involve our guests and associates in green initiatives,” explained Algamar.

Kick The Bottle Habit. Save resources by drinking from a glass whenever you can, or use a refillable, stainless steel bottle when you are on the go. It saves your money and reduces waste.

Hentikan Kebiasaan Air Minum Botol.

Day 19: March 19th 2013

What energy/carbon reductions have resulted from Earth Hour in previous years?
Earth Hour does not Support to be an energy/carbon reduction exercise, it is a symbolic action. Therefore, we do not engage in the measurement of energy/carbon reduction levels. Earth Hour is an initiative to encourage individuals, businesses and governments around the world to take accountability for their ecological footprint and engage in dialogue and resource exchange that provides real solutions to our environmental challenges. Participation in Earth Hour symbolises a commitment to change beyond the hour.

Earth Hour Daily Green Tips: March 17th 2013

Day 17: March 17th 2013

Frugal Printing. Use both sides of each piece of paper for note taking or printing documents from your computer (at home or work). Create note pads by stapling together once-used paper. The U.S. alone uses 4 million tons of copy paper annually, about 27 pounds per person. That means killing our forest softly.

Cetak secara ekonomis. Ketika mencetak dokumen dari komputer (kantor ataupun rumah), fotokopi atau catatan, gunakan kedua sisi kertas. Buatlah notepads dari kumpulan kertas bekas. Di Amerika saja, empat juta ton kertas terpakai setiap tahun atau sekitar 27 pound per orang. Itu berbarti membunuh hutan kita secara pelan-pelan.

Day 17: March 17th 2013

What does a commitment to Earth Hour mean?

By registering for Earth Hour 2013, individuals, communities and businesses are making a commitment to turn their lights off for an hour at 8.30PM on Saturday 23 March in acknowledgement of an act they will undertake for the benefit of the planet. Our expectation is that these individuals, communities and businesses will take action beyond the hour. In 2012, we have launched the I Will If You Will campaign to provide a platform to inspire people to share their commitment to the planet with their friends, colleagues, leaders and networks.

Di tahun 2013, Earth Hour meluncurkan kampanye “I Will if You Will untuk menginspirasi masyarakat akan komitmen terhadap keberlanjutan bumi.

Wash Laundry in Cold Water. An easy way to clean green is to turn the dial on your washing machine to cold. Most loads don’t need hot water, and 90% of the energy used by washing machines goes into heating. The higher the water temperature, the higher the cost to you and the planet.

The second-to-last and last weekend of March is around the time of the Spring and Autumn equinoxes in the northern and southern hemispheres respectively, which allows for near coincidental sunset times in both hemispheres, thereby ensuring the greatest visual impact for a global ‘lights out’ event. Earth Hour 2013 will be held on Saturday 23 March between 8.30PM and 9.30PM in your local time zone.
